Episode 109 - Buick Audra

Buick Audra playing guitar in a studio

If you don't yet have the language for what you want to say - you will

Buick and I have a few things in common.  We love music.  We're obsessed with language.  We write songs. We both put out a concept album this year. Hers is called Mass, and it comes with a whole book and a lot of stories. Buick was kind enough to take time out of her weekend to talk to me about all sorts of things a few weeks ago, and I procrastinated WAY too much, so this is going up super late.  I had intended to get this episode released while her band Friendship Commanders were still out on tour, but the tour is over now.  Oops.

How did Buick manage to win two GRAMMYs?  Why does Friendship Commanders tour as a two piece?  Does Buick feel comfortable in Nashville?  How has she been affected by misogyny in the music industry in Nashville? How is her songwriting different when she's writing for Friendship Commanders compared to when she's writing for her solo project or for other people?  What did her childhood smell like?  You'll get the answers to these questions and a whole lot more stuff in this conversation.
